Prepare your room in advance. Table and chairs organised to enable all sitters to reach the planchette even if the letter it goes to is furthest away. Have your Ouija-style layout organised and the surface the planchette uses to move around in place. This could be of glass, wood, or plastic-covered board, anything which lessens friction for the planchette to slide over. If you use a recording device, pen and paper, have them there at the beginning. With voice recording or use of video recording I always ask permission from the Board if they are happy with this. Again, this is simply being respectful in what is a two-way exchange. We always provide sitters with a glass of water each.
INTERRUPTIONS
Do try to provide peace and quiet in the room. Absolutely no mobile phone interruption.
Babies and domestic animals seem to feel quite happy during the hour of contact. Always start on time and expect to finish in one hour, no more. What you do not want is to disturb the flow of messages, or the concentration of the sitters or anything which disturbs the peace and quiet of the room.
Turn off the phones or put them in a bedroom covered by pillows. They are an intrusion and it would be an insult to Spirit if the session was disturbs by some pootling thing. If a person has to vacate the Circle, you should explain and apologise, just as you might if forced to vacate a dinner party. That is just one of the courtesies I mentioned earlier.
Children, if old enough to be a nuisance, should be elsewhere or quiet.
The Souls in your Circle are not stupid, they know that the murmurings or squeaks of a small baby are normal, or perhaps the sound of a budgie but you should do your best to keep intrusive noise out.
NORMAL EMOTIONS
There will often be a lot of laughter in the proceedings as some messages come through. That is good but keep control. The Souls on the other side do not change their personality when they pass over. Therefore when some character who always told jokes in mortal life goes over, if they come through, will tell jokes at your Circle. Everything is natural. It is literally as if they are in the room with you. Sometimes the medium might feel a hug, or feel suddenly cold. A sitter might smell cigar smoke which clearly identifies the Soul with their message. There might also be tearful emotions, often of joy and memories remembered. That is not unusual.
Do not forget, the Soul was alive when it decided to accompany a mortal from birth through the entirety of its life. It has always lived and cannot die. So you are in contact with the person you once knew on their mortal journey. Exactly as in 'life'. Their old mortal self has melded and is now a Soul. That is who you are talking to.
The one hour of contact should be as calm and quiet as you can make it.
